Head of Data Science | Behavioural Science & Social Purpose Research.
- £95,000
We're recruiting a Head of Data Science for a well-established behavioural science and social-purpose research organisation, working across policy areas including health, financial resilience, gambling harm, and sustainability.
-
The role:
This is a senior, hands-on leadership position. You’ll be the technical anchor for the data science function — leading and mentoring a team, setting methodological standards, and overseeing QA across machine learning, predictive modelling and data visualisation work. You’ll also play a central role in business development: leading technical bids, costing proposals, and pitching data science capabilities to non-technical clients.
-
Why this role:
- Rare seat that combines deep technical leadership with genuine commercial influence — not just delivery
- Work sits at the intersection of causal inference, ML and real policy impact, across health, financial resilience, gambling harm and sustainability
- Direct input into the organisation’s AI roadmap, shaping how agentic AI and LLMs get used in research and client work
- Lead and grow a talented data science team, with real autonomy over methodology and standards
-
What we're looking for:
- Strong applied ML and econometrics skills (predictive modelling, regression frameworks, clustering)
- Experience with causal inference and experimental/quasi-experimental methods (RCTs, DiD, RDD, propensity score matching) is a strong plus
- Fluency in Python and R, with experience building reproducible data pipelines
- A track record of leading technical bids or client-facing proposals
- Experience with LLMs or agentic AI tools in a research or applied services context
- People leadership experience — mentoring and developing technical specialists
-
Details:
- Hybrid: minimum 2 days/week in a London office
- Permanent
