Senior Data Scientist – Social Impact and Policy.

This consultancy works on the key challenges of our times, supporting governments in designing, appraising, and delivering policies and programs across a wide range of issues, from migration and security to technology, health, food, and the environment. Their Data Science Team partners with experts across their business, applying data science methods to create innovative solutions for clients in the UK and EU.
  • The Role:

    They are seeking a Senior Data Scientist.

    You will apply your expertise to client projects and work closely with the team leader to coach and manage junior data scientists.

    This role involves working on multiple projects, interacting with all levels of staff and external stakeholders, drafting research reports and proposals, and presenting findings to clients.

  • Key Responsibilities:

    – Apply data science methods to public policy research and analysis.

    – Lead and manage projects, ensuring high-quality delivery and client satisfaction.

    – Provide coaching and line management to junior data scientists.

    – Draft research reports and proposals, presenting findings to clients.

    – Collaborate with experts across the business to develop innovative solutions.

  • Skills and experience

    • Educational Background:

    At minimum, a Bachelor’s degree in Data Science, Social Sciences, or related disciplines.

    – Experience:

    At least three years of practical experience in industry, government, or consulting, applying data-driven approaches to various business scenarios, including advanced analytics or machine learning algorithms.

    – Technical Skills: Strong Python skills and understanding of data science and machine learning concepts and algorithms such as clustering, regression, classification, forecasting / predictive analytics, neural networks, hyperparameter tuning, NLP, and utilising LLMs.

    –  Communication:  Strong ability to communicate complex technical concepts to diverse audiences effectively.

    –  Management:  Previous line management experience.

    –  Additional Skills:  Experience with query languages such as SQL and working on proposals for client work would be advantageous but not essential.

    –  Language:  Excellent command of the English language, strong report writing, and presentation skills.

    –  Eligibility:  Applicants must have the right to work in the UK.
